#31WriteNow Blog Challenge Day 11

Day 11- Put your iPod on shuffle and list the ten songs that pop up.

Now this is a topic I can wholeheartedly get behind.

Ciara ft Nicki Minaj - I'm Out
YOOOOOO....this would have been my song of the summer if it weren't for Nicki Minaj. I really like this track. But Nicki is doing the most per usual and she's just a little too vulgar for me. Granted, I have heard her say FAR WORSE but I've just gotten to a point where I don't want to hear anyone calling women b****es. And I certainly don't want to hear about what falls out of Nicki's butt. *sigh* Girl bye.

Jay-Z - 99 Problems
I just saw Jay-Z in concert with Justin Timberlake. I feel like Jay-Z no longer has 99 problems. Maybe like 5 or 6. No more than 10.

John Mayer - Breakaway
*SIIIIIGGGGHHHHHHH* Oh John. This is back when I thought our love affair would never end.

Spice Girls - Goodbye
I am not remotely ashamed of how much I still love the Spice Girls. I mean not even a little ashamed.

Steve Wonder - Superwoman
When this song popped up I was genuinely sad for a second. There really just aren't that many true musicians left in the world anymore. The stuff on the radio is garbage. And I'm convinced that we've seen the end of iconic musicians. I know someone will bring up Beyonce. And I mean she is an amazing performer. There is no one in her league. But she's not a musician in the true since of the word. As far as I know she doesn't play an instrument. She doesn't solely write her own music. She can tear up a stage though. But when I say musician, I'm talking about someone who sits down at the piano and writes all of the lyrics and all of the musical parts of the song. Someone who knows the ins and outs of music. I don't want something regurgitated on me and called a song. I want something that you created. I'm rambling. Moving on...

Kenny Loggins - No Lookin' Back
It's the man who sings the hits!!! Y'all Kenny!! Has!! Hits!! If you don't like Kenny I don't like you. Yes, it's that serious.

Drake - Thank Me Now
I love that Aubrey came out the gate cocky. His mix tape made me stop calling him Wheelchair Jimmy.

Stacie Orrico - Ride
I need Stacie Orrico to come back from wherever she is and put out new music. In fact, once JoJo gets out of that slavery contract with Blackground I need her and Stacie to hook up and work on some stuff together.

Brand New Heavies - World Keeps Spinning
I feel like the Brand New Heavies were a band that just didn't get the shine they deserved. I think I'm going to go listen to them when I finish this post.

Hillsong - You Are/You Are Lord (Live)
If I ever move to London trust and believe I will be going to the Hillsong church there. While I understand the importance of the teaching of the bible, worship is my favorite part of church. There's just something about singing the praises of God that's amazing. There's no agenda or pretense. It's just...worship in the most pure since of the word.

Okay this is the thing: I have an iPod that I never use. It's full of podcasts but not a lot of music. My collection of music is housed between Spotify, actual CDs and some vinyl.  With that being said, I have a playlist on Spotify called Girl Power that has over 1300 songs on it with all female singers. It's my absolute favorite.  So what I will do is put it on shuffle and see what comes up.

1. "Beautiful" Pricilla Summer Coffey
This is a song by a dear friend of mine, Pricilla Summer Coffey. She did an EP a few years back and I absolutely loved it. The entire sound of it is gorgeous.

2. "32 Flavors" Alana Davis
This song is LIFE! I think I named this entire playlist Girl Power off of this one empowering song. I didn't know until recently that it is an Ani Difranco cover.

3. "Something Big" Mary Mary
I love Mary Mary's music. This was a really good album.

4. "The Right Stuff" Vanessa Williams

Liiiiisteeeeeeeeen!!! This. was. my. JAM. I am involved in ANYTHING that is involving The Whop, you hear me?  "Dreaming" was that jam but she hooked me with this. THIS is how you come back from a scandal.

5. "Stuck" Stacie Orrico

I miss this girl. Don't even get me started. She was a vocal beast at 14. 14! This industry makes me so sick sometimes.

6. "Like a Feather" Nikki DaCosta

If I ever get in shape to wear a one piece pantsuit with bell bottoms, watch out. It's on.

7. "Girls Like Just Wanna Have Fun" Cyndi Lauper

This song just turned 30. I can't even deal.

8. "Get Up, Everybody Get Up" Salt-n-Pepa

This song makes me want to go out and fight someone. And by fight someone I mean finish them off with a pirouette-cartwheel- freeze combination finishing move. We need more dance offs. Children, settle beef with dance offs! It's the only way!

9. "Let It Flow" Toni Braxton

This song is perfect and if I could sing like anyone it would be Toni Braxton. Her voice! So sultry!

10. "Without You" Christina Aguilera

These are the type of songs that I love to hear women sing about their men. Gorgeous.
