Tia's Best of 2011

I know most people do their best of, year end stuff...well...at the end of the year. But I have been procrastinating and traveling between parents for the last two weeks, so two days into the new year is when you get a list of random things from 2011.

Best New Music: BRKN RBTZ

I feel like the music industry is trying to make it hard for real music lovers to like music. A lot of the stuff that I hear on the radio just hurts my soul. I often find myself wondering, "Who thought this song was going to be a good idea?" So I'm sure my disdain with most of 2011 radio is what made me love BRKN RBTZ instantly. Well, my disdain and the fact that they are AWESOMESAUCE!

I completely fell in love with these boys from the first song and have never looked back. Between their harmonies and their songwriting I can't help be hope that 2012 brings a full album of BRKN RBTZ songs and nationwide tour. Who do I need to talk to about that?

Oh and if I ever get married, I fully intend to dance to this at my wedding.

Best Album: 21
*sigh* This broad...I really can't deal with this chick. So...so...so...you're just gonna be gorgeous AND write the most beautifully tragic break-up album of all time? You're just going to put "Someone Like You" out there so that all of us can cry along with you? How am I NOT supposed to play "Turning Tables" when dealing with some flaky man? And did you mean for me to do the gospel double clap EVERY time I listen to "One and Only"?

I can't with this broad. I really can't. 21 took me through all kinds of changes this year. I could not stop listening to it. And just when I was close to taking the CD out of my car Live At The Albert Hall came out. So I've basically been listening to Adele at least once a week since February.

If you don't already have it (what is wrong with you?) you need to go out and immediately purchase Live At The Royal Albert Hall.  I promise you will not be disappointed. Adele is funny, heart-warming and heartbreaking throughout the entire concert. I found myself laughing hysterically at some of her profanity laced stories only to later find myself crying with her at the overwhelming response she gets from the crowd during "Someone Like You." I may or may not have watched it 3 times in one week.

Favorite New To Me T.V. Show: Battlestar Galactica
If you have been reading this blog for any amount of time you know that I am a complete nerd. That being said, I'm not sure how I missed B.G. during it's original airing. This show is all that I believe in: Sci-Fi, robots, space travel, hot men, strong BAMF (Google the acronym if you need to..sorry if the language offends you) women and a British guy. (Actually two because the guy who plays Apollo, Jamie Bamber, is English in real life but not on the show.) I think because I had no interest in the original series I figured I would feel the same about the reboot. I could not have been more wrong. I have been watching episodes on Netflix every day for about 3 weeks. This was just the show I needed to end 2011. I have watched this show so much that the other day when some woman cut me off and I thought, "Are you fraking kidding me?"I realized that I may need to ease up on the B.G. viewings just a bit.

Favorite USA!USA!USA!moment
I must confess I don't watch fĂștbol (aka soccer) nearly as much as I should as a professed Anglophile. But when I do take the time to watch a match I usually love it.

This summer I made every effort to watch the women's world cup. I really wanted our team to win. And while I was disappointed that Japan ultimately took the title, I was really proud of the way our women's team played. And the come from behind victory against Brazil had me screaming my head off. I love sports in general. But I love them even more when there's a little home country glory mixed in. USA! USA! USA!

Favorite New Hobby: Guns
One of my goals in 2012 is to be sexy bad-a$$ (sorry if the language offends.) Despite the stress fracture in my left ankle from running too much, I fully intent to resume running as soon as I'm healed and work on getting my physique in order on my way to overall BAMF-ness. I'm even taking up boxing this weekend in my quest to be the black Lara Croft.

So you can imagine my joy when I finally got to shoot guns this year and not only found that I liked it but that I was good at it. I will be investing in my own firearm sometime in the coming weeks. And thanks to the best bestie in the world, I will have a place to practice my marksmanship. Look out world.

Seriously, don't I look AWESOME holding that gun?

Best AHAHAHAHA moment: Dallas Winning the NBA Finals

I am so glad Dallas won the 2011 NBA finals. The Heat didn't deserve to win. After that spectacle they put on "Not 1, Not 2, Not 3" they deserved to go home empty handed and salty. What's that one scripture about pride coming before destruction? I didn't make that up...that's biblical.

Best "Wait just a minute!!" Moment
I have said many a-times that I better never catch Trudy Styler slipping. Sting is one of those men that I would snatch up quick, fast and in a hurry. Even at 60 he could holla at me. It takes a lot for me to ignore Sting. But ignore him I did as I watched this clip.

Wait...is that Robert Downy Jr...singing? Wait a minute....what is happening? CHILDREN, I WENT IN!!! RDJ has always been fine. But after watching this, I realized that he needed to be added to the list of "could holla no matter what." It's the combination of sexy and nonchalance with the hands in his pocket that gets me. One of my friends said, "He kept his hands in his pockets as if to say, 'Yes...I do this too.'" YES SIR!! And 1:28 had me feeling some kind of way. That little man...he...I...we....Jesus be a fence.

Finest Man of 2011: Idris Elba

Between Thor, BBC America's airing of series 2 of Luther and his appearance on the EBT BET awards, Idris Elba was all over the place. And my soul rejoices because if it. That man is ignorantly fine. If I move back to Atlanta it's going to be my mission to meet him at least once. (He's in town a lot because his daughter and ex-wife live there.)  It will probably only be once because I already know that I will probably act all kinds of ignorant when I see him. And I'm okay with that. I know my weaknesses and this man is one of them. So when you're reading about some girl who ran up on Idris Elba at Atlantic Station and jumped on his back while screaming his name, just know that that was me.

That's it for now. I have to go back to work tomorrow so I will bid you goodnight and happy 2012.

Why during the Adele trailer did I start tearing up when she started tearing up. I feel if I buy that DVD I might have to stay home for a bit to get my emotional self together.

Oh and about Battlestar Galatica-fave thing about the whole show. Athena and Helo. Loved them. They were the heart of the show. Let us know when you finish watching it, because I want to discuss.
