BGLU Approved: Nicki Minaj's "Your Love"- Toya

Yeah. I'm just as shocked as you are.

There are a number of reasons why this should be egregious: It's from Young Money (Tia loves Drake, I am on the fence still waiting to be wowed), it's by an artist who is supposed to have taken the throne from Lil' Kim because of her sometimes raunchy. hypersexual lyrics (as if that is something to boast about), and it uses an Annie Lennox sample (is nothing sacred?). And yet, I love this song and pretty much love the video. Not bad at all. Go figure!

Update on Tia's Mom from Tia:

Update on my mom: 7 broken ribs on one side, 4 on the other. Back fractures. There was fluid around her lungs but it has resolved. There is severe bruising around her midsection. She will be out of work for a while. Please pray for healing and financial stuff as well. Thank you all so much for your prayers, support & well wishes. I saw a video of the aftermath & it is nothing short of a miracle that my mother & her friend are alive. Both the car my mom was in & the HUGE BMW that hit them are totaled. And I have to say watching the police arrest the woman at the end of the video helped A LOT!

URGENT PRAYER NEEDED FOR TIA'S MOM

Tia's mom was hit by a drunk driver last night in Houston. The air bags did not deploy. All I know so far is that she has broken ribs and are waiting for the trauma unit. Tia is headed to TX tonight. Please pray for her mom, Tia and the rest of her family. Thanks.

Why Does BGLU Look Different?

Cause we still haven't figured out how we want this blog to look. LOL! However, now that Tia has moved back to Nashville, we should be able to make some sweet changes. Bear with us please.- Toya

Seriously... Keep Calm and Eat a Cupcake

There are few people in the media who could use some cupcake therapy. Some people think that I (Toya) may have developed a habit as of late but hey, it's either a cupcake or jail time. I'll take a cupcake with sprinkles and vanilla frosting any day of the week over bartering for cigarettes in jail. Here are some people I would like to offer the soothing of cupcake bliss to:

1. Christina Milian: Girl...GIRL! I love you and I'm so sorry. Seriously, if I could mail her a dozen from my spot of choice The Cupcake Collection, I so would. I probably wouldn't send her my fave Wedding Cake one though. Too soon, too soon.

2. Dan Gilbert: Dude CALM DOWN FOR REAL!!!! Now I will say this: If you plan on quitting your job, you need to tell your employer before you tell the rest of the world. It's fair. But that Miss Celie curse he put on Lebron James in that open letter was so laughable...

"And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and karma."

In other words:

I'd like to recommend him a cupcake with some Kuhlua, Jack Daniels, or Black Cohosh Root.
3. Mel Gibson: You know what? There's not a cupcake in the world that can help Mel Gibson right now. That is some kind of crazy. I don't care if the cupcake is topped with Ritalin frosting.

Who do you think can use a cupcake and some time away?

Thank You Walter Hawkins- Toya

One of the things I hate about Twitter is when someone tweets that someone has passed away. That’s how I found out about the passing of Walter Hawkins. I grew up on the music of Walter Hawkins and he is a very vital part of my life’s soundtrack. He was a legendary genius. My mom said it best when she said that he “was doing Contemporary Gospel Music before it was Contemporary Gospel Music.”

Sometimes when you grow up surrounded by music there are certain things you don't really appreciate until you are an adult. It wasn't until I left my parents vinyl and got my own music did I realize how much of a trailblazer Hawkins was. I remember putting on "Keep On Fighting" and being blown away by the musicianship. I think I was so use to certain gospel artists trying to be the "Christian version" of something mainstream that I finally got to see how truly original he was in his music.

The older you get, the more heroes you see pass away and it’s hard. His music, influence and message will live on as only excellent music can do. Here’s one of his greats…

This mess here has blessed me beyond measure this Tuesday. And I don’t know who this “brotha” is at :15 but my soul says yes, amen, and to God be the glory. Oh this is hilarious!
